Chemex filters are 20-30% heavier than competing brands and also remove the finest sediment particles, as well as unwanted oils and fats. The formulation of the filter allows the correct infusion time by adjusting the filtration rate - not too slow, not too fast. Good infusion of coffee grounds (such as in brewing and tea maceration) provides coffee with a richer flavor, while at the same time making precise fractional extraction possible by filtering out the undesirable elements that make coffee bitter, allowing only the desirable flavor elements of the coffee bean to pass through.
The Chemex filter is folded into a cone shape, just like in laboratory techniques. This ensures uniform extraction since the water filters through all the motifs on its way to the apex of the cone. The Chemex filter is guaranteed not to burst under the weight of the liquid during filtration, and not to break when the grounds are raised.
